So I just took TS#1, and there was a GC question about what determines miscibility. Obviously polarity is involved, but I also thought that density played a factor as well (e.g. ice and liquid water is an example, or rather that was what made me think that both density and polarity determined miscibility).

Can someone clarify for me why density doesn't play a role in miscibility?

Don't worry about it 🙂
Just know what is miscible and what isn't. Density plays no MAJOR factor so who cares. For the DAT concentrate on the types on interactions.
 
density only matters when you are performing the experiment to determine the layers. I think both the compounds should be in the same phase.
 
Look at a lava lamp: the two liquids are of comparable density (because layers aren't formed), but they don't mix. I probably got the mechanics of a lava lamp wrong but it's how you can visualize it.
