Does a misdemenor of first degree will affect me on Pre-Radiology. I was caught with a less than 1 gram of Cannabis. I had just turned 18 when this happen, and of course I had to do rehab. I've been clean ever since now I just turn 22. Can someone give some advice?

It definitely doesn't look good. Is there any way you can get that expunged from you record? That would be your best bet. As a last resort, hire a lawyer to help you, because if you could get it off your record that would be super-awesome.

When you say Pre-radiology, do you mean that you're in medical school? If you're trying to get into med school, then you would be 'pre-med'. If you're already in med school, then I don't think Radiology would care any more about a cannabis misdemeanor anymore than another specialty. If anything, they should be the most forgiving for substance abuse problems, b/c radiologists don't prescribe medications (for the most part), so there's no worry about you relapsing, unless you're reading CT scans all stoned and write crazy stuff in your report, 'I notice a 3 cm dragon in the upper left lobe of the right lung, I recommend sending a small knight to kill it'.

I would guess that Anesthesia would care the most about that stuff b/c they have access to all the drugs.

The problem is that the case is in the process of expungment but that school already knows the case of the misdemeanor. Do you think that the Dean would give me a hard time. Im suppose to start my clinicals next month. I have been accepted half way the only thing stopping right now would be that small little incident. Im getting into radiography (RT)

Well by getting it expunged, that's the best thing you can do. That's too bad that the school already knows, b/c once you get expunged, from what I understand, the courts retroactively change your misdemeanor plea from 'guilty' to 'not guilty', so that in the future you can confidently mark 'no' for any criminal conviction questions.

Maybe the school dean will reject you for this mishap, but maybe you'll get lucky and he'll give you a chance. If anything, during applications, mention how you are in rehab and in the process of getting this expunged from your record, that way it will paint a better picture of yourself. You have nothing to lose since they already know, just go up to the dean in person and explain that you were 'young and made a stupid mistake'. Smoking pot is not a horrible crime, as long as you learn from your mistakes, you will get credit, but for something like this you should personally explain yourself. Your other choice would be to forget about this school, and wait for the expungment, then apply to another school. But I would only do that if the first school rejects you.

Thanks for the advice, I will definately keep that in mind
