So I know this has been brought up plenty of times but seems to still be a bit blurry.

So back in my rebelious youth days, I had plenty of MIP of alcohol, disturbing the peace, public intox, and maybe even a few other misdemeanors i don't recall. So these all happened at age 20 or less. I am now 25 and have had no incidents in this time span. Some of these cases were expunged, some dropped, one MIP i just paid a fine for so i guess "convicted" of that one. Now my question is, do i need to go find all the information on these and report them?

Q2: Must I report expunged incidents?
Q3: Should I pay to have the convictions expunged at this point 5 years later?

And big Q where do I get a background check that would be like the one AMCAS would do? Because I have no idea what is on my record and it would be nice for me to no what they will be looking at. 👍👍👍

Thanks, Mr.Sunny

buy a background check. If they appear, claim it. If they do not, then don't. Simple as that.

Thanks and by "appear" that means everything that shows up whether expunged or not?

Much appreciation

You MUST report all Misdemeanors that are not expunged or pardoned. You do NOT need to report anything about an expunged incident. You should get convictions expunged because the more misdemeanors you have the lower the chance of being accepted/matriculating. Misdemeanors aren't a big deal as long as they are isolated incidents that aren't major by nature. For exmaple a driving conviction or drunk in public not a big deal as long as isolated. You will get the heat though if you have a DUI and a drunk in public and disturbing the peace and none of them are expunged. 2-3 DUIs, assault misdemeanors, sexual misdemeanors MAJOR red flags. Again I emphasize expunged misdemeanors are not reported and during the application process act as if they never happened.

You do not need to report juvenile convictions.

expunged offenses=no report
you do need to come clean about the ones that will appear though. would hate to get accepted only to get it yanked later due to a bad BG check

yes, if they can see them. Report them. You will get in a lot of trouble if something appears that you didn't mention.

I called amcas and certiphi about this.

AMCAS: only report misdemeanor CRIMES. Some misdemeanors (depending on your state) are not crimes such as a petty misdemeanor (again in some states). Amcas explicitly told me over the phone that if they are not crimes do NOT report them.

However....

Certiphi: after calling them, they said regardless if it's a crime or not if it has the word "misdemeanor" in it it WILL show up on a background check.

So, if they are not crimes you don't need to report them, but they will show up and you will have to write a report to the school saying that Amcas said you didn't have to report the incidents. That is, if you opt out of reporting them on amcas. Sorry to add to your confusion.
