I wanted to know with this new SOAP process which they say must be less hectic will the programs still entertain emails and or faxes. I did not sign up for NRMP even though I did go thru ERAS this year and wanted to ask anyone if I have any other chance to apply for an unfilled 1st or 2nd year spot. I know there are some second year spots on the unfilled list thru the SOAP. Even though I have not signed up for NRMP will programs have any access to my application? Do they know I am out there? More likely not ha? What options if any do I have considering the programs are less likely to look at faxes or emails now? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Good luck to all...

Unfortunately, if you are not part of SOAP, you will need to wait until SOAP completes on Friday. You can then theoretically apply for any open spots, although most will be filled by then. Once SOAP completes, you can apply / contact programs in any way you would like.

I'm in the same boat. You'll be able to send applications using ERAS. I'm competing for prelim surgery, but I need a good program so I'll likely wait a year and apply.

I'm in the same situation. However, you can actually go to FREIDA and see what programs aren't participating in NRMP and try to contact them and find out if they have matched all their positions. I didn't find any with open positions, but it was a way to keep busy during this rough time. You can also go to ERAS and the programs that aren't participating in NRMP, but may be using ERAS. I checked for psych and FM and didn't find any open positions.

If you're an AMG then it could be worth your while to contact the Military residencies to see if they have any open positions.
