Missing Days on "Tryout" Rotations to Interview Somewhere Else

I was wondering what the general consensus is on missing a day or two while on a "Tryout" away rotation Sub-I to interview at a different program. I'm obviously going to try to avoid it, but I may end up having to do it at least once. What do you guys think about that, complete faux pas or acceptable?

In general, the faculty and residents know that there is a predefined interview season and expect that students who are doing visiting rotations may need to miss some days for interviews.

However, if you are doing a sub-I then (depending on the program) you will be functioning as half an intern. You will be sharing admits with the other half-intern on your team, and if you miss days for interviews then either the other intern or your senior will be forced to take admits for you.

If you need to, you need to...I don't think anyone reasonable is going to fault you for this. Someone will have to pitch in to cover your absence to some degree, it happens all the time.

Obviously try not to miss for interviews. You are trying to leave an excellent impression. If you don't have a choice, then you don't have a choice.

A day off or two, yes.

But your primary goal in doing an away sub-I is to audition for a program. Taking a bunch of days off to interview elsewhere is not going to leave a killer impression. And if your goal is not to give a killer impression, why are you auditioning.

Interview season is best scheduled around home rotations.
