Hi all!

It appears I cannot find a copy of one of my USMLE score reports, and I need to submit my scores to my residency program. I know that I can request an official transcript for an exorbitant amount of money, but I am curious if anyone knows how I can get this information without having to go through the NBME. Do medical schools have them? Can the PD just print it out from my ERAS application? Can I call and beg anyone or agency specifically?

Thanks in advance!

if you consider 50 bucks exorbitant money...but many places will want an official transcript.

I think it's $70 for an official transcript these days. It may depend on whether or not you've already taken Step 3 though (if you've taken step 3, you can only get the transcripts from the FSMB. If you haven't, you can get them from the NBME still)

Regardless though: Either you saved the pdf when you took the exam and you have it on some hard drive or in your email somewhere... Or you have to pay to get it. There's nowhere else I'm aware of you can get ahold of a copy.

There's a reason I keep all my step scores, my diploma, my licenses/certificates, etc in a folder in my dropbox. Makes it easy when I inevitably need them for whatever reason.

I ran into the same thing. I was able to email the PD/PC at the program I matched into, and they provided me with a PDF copy with a USMLE Certified Transcript.

Can your medical school provide a copy of the results?

Probably, assuming you released the scores to your institution (which you probably did), but your training institution may or may not accept them.

Buck it up and just pay for a transcript. In the big scheme of things this is a non-existent cost and the first of many - some quite large - costs in your training.
