I keep hearing that MKSAP questions are easier than UWorld and the Shelf. I just cracked open MKSAP 5 and I'm doing much worse than UWorld. I know in MKSAP 5 there is the Advanced vs. Basic questions, and it is almost all of the "Advanced" questions I'm getting wrong.

Can anybody chime in as to whether I'm screwed for the Medicine Shelf? Are the Shelf questions more like MKSAP or UWorld? Thanks :scared:

MKSAP 5 hasn't been out long enough for people to have gotten a really good grasp on its predictive value. If you are making small mistakes, but know what the question is asking, and you're just missing details, thats ok. If you think the guys got appendicitis and he's having an MI, you're in trouble.

If you've done Uworld Questions and are now doing MKSAP (thats alot of questions) your preparation for the test is sufficient. You are going to do as well as you are going to do, and you can't push the test back. Do not focus on whether or not this is a good predictor of your testing ability and instead focus on learning the topics you aren't getting right.

If you have the time, check out www.onlinemeded.org for some nice review lectures on medicine; there are about 80 medicine lectures, so it may be too late to get started here.

~Silly question~--what exactly is MKSAP? I'm seeing it everywhere on sdn

MKSAP = medical knowledge self-assessment program. It's a question book.

The '5' just means 5th edition (I think). I haven't looked at the others, but from what people are saying it sounds like MKSAP 1, 2, 3, 4 all have different questions, so maybe they're worth looking at?

if you google you'll also see MKSAP 15, but if I understand correctly that's more for residents.
