A few points below on the MMI--
--Thoughtful practice makes perfect: Familiarize yourself with common scenarious (e.g., breaking bad news to a patient; managing a conflict; taking responsbility for an error; handling confidential information; witnessing unprofesional behavior; etc.). Practice delivering responses to these common MMI scenarious under timed conditions. Record yourself doing so and evaluate the substance of your response, the quality of your verbal delivery, and your body language.
--Wear a watch and keep an eye on your time.
--Make the most of your first two minutes: Determine the focus of the scenario (e.g., ethical scenario about confidentiality, question about professionalism, etc.); identify all stakeholders who may be affected by your decision; and prepare a mental flow chart of your answer.
--Manners matter: Knock on door and wait for permission to enter, introduce yourself with a firm handshake, confident voice, good posture, etc.
--Organized delivery: Summarize what you believe to be the issue; gather any additionbal information that you may want to know; provide a high-level overview of your answer; walk through the reasoning for your answer, showing that you have considered the issue from every angle and are sensitive to the positions of the various stakeholders; and conclude.
--Work on making things clear: “Let me begin by summarizing what I believe to be the issue.” "I would I would like to ask several questions to make sure I have all the necesary facts." “Now I would like to move to an overview of my answer. . .” “The first point I would like to make. . .” “In conclusion, . . .”
--Let the interviewer know that you have enjoyed meeting him/her, and thank him/her for their time.
