For those that have been to MMIs in the past, do schools ever use very similar scenarios to the common "practice ones" you see online (birth control, jehovah witness, alternative medicine, organ donation, etc), or at least ones with similar themes? Has anyone been hit with a scenario completely out of left field (excluding traditional interview questions)?

Most of them were just basic “tell me about a time you....” type questions, some were pretty standard scenarios like the practice ones, nothing curve ball. It really is not that stressful if you just relax. Imagine the phone II but if the dude on the other end actually responded instead of saying “yup.”

Interesting, like "tell me about a time you failed" etc. You had 2 minutes to mull over all of them? Was there a timer?

Depends on the school; the one MMI I did had several stations:
1) Standard interview station which took the time of 2 stations
2) Some situational questions (e.g., "what would you do if...")
3) Questions that probe into your experiences (e.g., "recall a time where you showed leadership in improving community")
4) A break station.

None of the stations involved role-playing.

Very interesting.

What did you have to act out in your mock?
I have an MMI coming up in a little over a week and I'm FEELIN the nerves.

I had two acting scenarios. It's been a while so I don't remember all of the details, but here is more or less what went down:

Scenario 1, I was a physician and a bunch of prescription drugs have been disappearing from the hospital. The nurses suspect that one of my colleagues is responsible (I think there was more concrete sounding evidence in the prompt). I was supposed to confront him about this.

Scenario 2: Again I was a physician and some parents did some genetic testing on their daughter (she had some rare disease or something) and the genetic testing showed that the husband wasn't the father. I was supposed to tell them about the results (the child would have for sure had the condition had her parents actually been her parents)

In both of these you can only beat around the bush for so long before you have to break the news of an accusation or infidelity. How good are the actors at conveying shock xD?

They weren't bad, and I think that is totally the point of the actor MMI scenarios. Can you be direct in awkward situations? Can you stay calm if someone is freaking out at you? The actor started yelling at me in the first one, and I just stayed pretty calm because I've got two kids and they throw tantrums all the time. I'm used to people freaking out at me. At least adults can be reasoned with.
