Reportedly, there?s this mnemonic for the Spencer techniques that has something to do with ice cream. I tried a google search but it was unproductive. Anybody have a clue?

I don't know about the ice cream one. At TCOM, everybody uses:

Elephants: Extension
Fart: Flexion
Constantly: Circumduction (with Compression)
To: Traction (with Circumduction)
Annoy: ABduction
Intelligent: Internal Rotation
People: Pumping

E.G. Elephants fart constantly to annoy intelligent people.

Hope that helps.

They told us that ice cream thing at LECOM, but I can't remember the damn thing... +pissed+

Do any fellow LECOM'ers remember it?

HI nice to meet you
Lets go get ice cream
little cone for you
big cone for me
wait, that's not fair
want to fight about it
lets make up

so how is that supposed to correlate with Spencer--i understand the cones but what about everything else?

Also--is there a one for internal rotation that goes, "i'm going to hurt you --i'm really going to hurt you.....🙂 "

Other than that, none of the other sayings make much sense to me.

Here at KCOM we use EFC-carp

Extension
Flexion
circumduction with compression
circumduction with traction
abduction
rotation
pump

Hmm.. ice cream sounds familiar. I may not have it 100% down, but I learned it something like...

Let's go for a walk...
let's go for a longer walk...
I'll get you a cone of ice cream..
I'll get myself a bigger cone of ice cream...
I'm going to hurt you...
I'm really going to hurt you...
Let's be friends..

And another one of our Fellows did something with the chicken dance that actually looked promising, but I can't remember much from it. 😉

We didn't have one last year at OSU, but the OMT tutors this year decided to modify the TCOM one to fit how it is taught here.

Pink: Pumping
Elephants: Extension
Fart: Flexion
Constantly: Circumduction (with Compression)
To: Traction (with Circumduction)
Annoy: ABduction
Intoxicated: Internal Rotation
People: Pumping

Pink elephants fart constantly to annoy intoxicated people.

We also have an instructor who has a little dance to remember, but I can't really demonstrate that here. 🙂

I needed to review this one before COMLEX II PE (#2 go-around), and we did it a little different at my school, and a bunch of OMS's are doing it on you tube, which helped me remember!

"Who wants ice cream?" Extension
"I do I do" Flexion (elbow extended)
"small cone for you" circumduction (with compression)
"big cone for me" circumduction (with traction)
"chicken wing chicken wing" internal rotation
"gobble gobble" abduction
"pull pull" pumping

Shout out to our valedictorian. He taught us that one - it may have been his originally or he learned it from someone else, but it's so sily, that once I heard it again, I totally remembered.

Thanks to the OP and MJB for actually knowing it is "mnemonic." Now, almost more importantly, do you say it correctly?

Sorry, just a little pet peave...

How about you guys just LEARN the 7 stages of Spencer and quit worrying about mneumonics. Man, I really hope that when my shoulder gets crippled I don't see a doctor who's relying on mneumonics to help him diagnose me.

I like:
Eating = extension
Fried = flexion
Chicken = circumduction with compression then circumduction with traction
makes = nothing
Abs = abduction
Add = adduction
Extra = external rotation (with adduction)
Inches = internal rotation
Definitely = distraction

^dude may have been banned, but I agree. practice and there is no need for some corny mnemonic. it really isn't that difficult.
