i just did the old cram session and memorized it +pissed+

someone told me that the Lesser Mesenteric goes with LSS, like the oldsmobile. I then told him that I'm from California and nobody knows what the hell an Oldsmobile is there! He also said Greater Mesenteric goes with MRI......but he forgot the other I, I.

sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Those aren't that hard......

Superior Mesenteric Artery: (picture the ascending colon and transverse colon)
--Middle colic artery (transverse)
--Right colic artery (ascending)
--Ileocolic artery (ileum/cecum junction)
--Intestinal arteries (jejunum/ileum)

Inferior Mesenteric Artery: (picture the descending colon, sigmoid and rectum..I know..bad picture)
--Left colic artery (descending)
--Sigmoid branches (sigmoid colon)
--Superior rectal artery (rectum)

Its the branching of the celiac trunk that gets complicated. But even that isn't that bad....

Remember, the celiac trunk has three main branches

1--Left gastric artery (supplies L greater curvature of stomach)
2--Splenic artery (spleen, pancreas, left greater curv of stomach)
3--Common hepatic artery (liver, gall bladder, right greater curvature, head of the pancreas)

The braches of each:

Left gastric--really no major. Some esophageal branches. Don't worry about it...

Splenic--Pancreatic branches, into body, tail of pancreas, left gastroomental artery

Common hepatic--Proper hepatic artery, gastroduodenal artery (gastroduodenal divides into right gastroomental and superior pancreaticoduodenals)

Hope this helped you divide them up...good luck

For inferior mesenteric I liked this one:

Inferior is less

LESS:

L- Left colic
E- Eliminate (meaning nothing)
S- Sigmoid
S- Superior rectal

mossjoh,
u are right they aren't that hard but when u consider the subdivisions of all those arteries u mentioned as well as the arteries of the posterior abdominal wall, it's a lot. it's not that i think it's difficult, but the volume of it.

thanx guys

draw draw draw, if you can't draw it you don't know it...

start by sections 3:

1.) celiac trunk

2.) Superior Mesenteric

3.) Inferior Mesenteric

Do arteries first, each section separately, then draw them all together coming off the AA.

Do the same for the veins.

I didn't actually appreciate how amazing (and separate) the portal system is from the venous drainage of the IVC until I drew it all out...

and remember, whatever you do, NEVER cut the hepatoduodenal ligament...

Ahhhh.... to be back studying the good ol' abdomen!!! Right now, I don't know my a$$ from my torus tubarius...

with the superior mesenteric, don't forget about the first small branch:

the inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery

Ah yes Kristen, I hear that pain, what row do you sit in anyway?

I don't know my a$$ from a levator palpebre superioris 🙁

I'm in row 3, first seat next to the aisle located closer to lecture hall D.... I have alot of curly hair so you really can't miss me!
