Ok, this may be a kind of strange thread, but do any of you model to pay for dental school? I am talking fashion type modeling (runway, print, hair shows; not porno). Or is this considered unprofessional? I have had to fight hard for people to take me serious as a "science nerd trapped in a dumb blonde's body", so I would not want my patients or classmates to look down on me if I do model to pay for school. I live in Saint Louis right now, and I am with a great modeling agency, which has allowed me to work as a model to pay for graduate school. I am sure Detroit will have agencies, but I am certainly not going to work as a model if it will ruin my reputation....the money is just so good and I don't want to have all this massive debt! Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

This is a repeat post. Check the search option. Seems like a lot of people model to pay for school 🙄 Good luck.

Whoa, sorry! I did a search and came up with 0 results! I guess I didn't try the right search words. I didn't mean to "repeat post".

A lot of people work in varying fields to help pay for the enormous costs of dental school. The only time I have ever heard of disciplinary difficulty or "professionalism" issues is with some nude photography and soft porn...that sort of thing.

In terms of colleagues and patients taking you seriously, that is entirely how you present yourself and act towards them. You earn your respect with demeanor and disposition, so assuming you don't "play dumb" because you're worried it's expected of you, you'll be fine.

I think that modeling is an interesting conversation starter, it can make tons of money (the less debt you're in, the more you have control over your life and can spend your efforts on more important things), it's very different from medicine to keep you balanced, and it's a good networking tool.

not to be rude or anything but I don't really see the point of this thread. if modeling pays you enough to get through dental school then do it. modeling is not a big deal and people won't look down on you. i mean what do u want us pre-dents to tell you?? my advice do whatever you want and you feel comfortable with.

That's awesome, modelling to pay for D-school! With everything said and done, you could probably end up with a big name in the cosmetic dentistry feild... I wish I was a sexy blonde chick, that can get paid for being beautiful... Rather, I'm a hairy Egyptian guy that no one really wants to look at. LOL. Good luck with your career, both of them! I'm sure no one will look down on you, rather they will admire you... I know I do. 😉

i'm such a nerd....i actually know wut this stands for...hah

Hi superhuntress,

I don't think there's anything wrong with modeling at all, and the fact that it pays well and might keep you out of serious debt is a great bonus. It's also interesting and different, it probably lends itself to a lot of great life experience, and will make you stand out as an applicant (and I don't mean in just a physical/attractive sense). There are more "nerdy" models out there than you realize (hey, one of the "Project Runway" models from last season is getting a graduate degree in engineering from Stanford!) and you should be proud, not ashamed, to be counted among them 🙂

Maybe you should PM Hotty, I know she models here in SLC. I think she said that she was planning on continuing into dental school.

Where has Hotty been lately anyway?

Not a strange thread at all. This is fairly common. Modeling, if it's the right situation can be a great source of quick income that you can fit into a busy schedule. I have and continue to do print/ad work in my spare time, and have put myself through dental school and more. But, like I said, it has to be the right situation....

my friend and I use to do import modeling to make money for college. Its fast money and all, but we quit cuz we dont have the time.
What can I say, science classes are hella hard. If you spend less time on ur modeling, u wouldnt be that popular and your agent would probably nag at you and give you pressure. My suggestion is do modeling during the summer, then when the school year start, quit it, cuz its time consuming.

Also, you can use FAFSA to help you financially, trust me it really helped alot.

Oh yea and umm at the beginning your agents or peeps usually have you do the innocent stuff but as time goes by they would probably want you to wear less clothing and eventually get naked, so you should watch yourself in that industry.

much love
😍

Hey - send me some pics and I'll let you know if you have what it takes to be a model. PM me and we'll talk. 😉

Butt Modeling helped to pay for my undergrad studies! It also helped with the bills after the Navy. My Butt has been in many magazine advertisements and all over billboards in Atlanta. My butt is the reason they call it "Hot"-lanta. So, check out the closest butt modeling agency and let the full moon rise.

... I wish I was a sexy blonde chick,

some hormone therapy, laser hair removal and a good stylist might get you pretty close.

I'm the opposite of this model. I do photography to pay my bills! I'm cutting it out pretty soon. Takes too much time. However, I did have two girls here at the university come to me recently and ask if I would take their pics. Let's see, I think the exact words were "would you please, please, please take pictures of us in our underwear?" How can I say no to that?

Now, who want's to see pictures?

I just googled my name and found some pics I've taken... here's one here's another and another I always like the color on this one crazy make up...
