does anyone have information on how one could find such positions ?

are there any restrictions to moonlighting during pgy 1 ?

would appreciate any feedback...

Please see the General Residency FAQs sticky on page 6, starting with post #105 for some of the answers to your questions.

Generally speaking you cannot moonlight as a PGY-1. To moonlight outside your training institution you need a full medical license and AFAIK no state currently will approve a full license without at least one complete year of residency training. There may be some opportunities within your institution but in my experience they pay considerably less than outside moonlighting.

aside from the licensing issue, interns are as a rule overworked as it is. why would you even consider moonlighting?

EM Interns at the University of Chicago are allowed to moonlight in fast-track as PGY-1's. It pays is $50/hr...

Da MONEY!

Seriously, I spoke to one intern (UConn?...somewhere along the interview trail) and he's made $4000 moonlighting. A 3rd yr had made double that with this one sweet deal through his school where he sat in the back room of an imaging facility and studied/slept/whatever. They needed an MD "on-site" in case of emergency. He was making over $10K.

Anesthesia residents at wake can sit/sleep in community hospital call rooms all night for around $60/hr. Same deal... they just need an MD in house in case of an emergency. Basically they are paid ~$700 to sleep in a hospital bed for a night!
