Hi,

Would anyone have any general tips/recs on how to go about scouting for moonlighting positions most efficiently?? I was preferably looking in New York, but if anyone knows of opportunities in other states, I would be open to it. I essentially have a completely open schedule in terms of weekdays/wknds/overnight, etc. until next July when I will finish the final 2 years of my adult residency. I have applied for NY and GA license as well.

Thank you for any guidance!

This is easy in NY, way too many open spots. Pay and work is variable. You can either call a recruiter—which are plenty or just directly call the service chief for something you might be interested in.

Of note, once you are board eligible (ie one year before end of CAP) you are also eligible for all full time jobs. So if you see a listing you can just reach out and say I’m interested in this job but can only do part time nights weekends and usually they can help you find a match.

Recruiters can be useful for jobs outside of NYC. Recently I was called by multiple recruiters for a locum upstate (Glen Oaks? glen something) that pays almost 10g per weekend—but you do need to be board eligible. They fly you out Friday night and back in Sunday night, not my thing but could be yours.

Any specific sites or resources I can use to find spots in NY?? I've been talking to recruiters, but most aren't able to help with moonlighting; they only state they will get back to me if they can find some Locum position that I would be eligible for. Thanks for that example; I would be down for that kind of stuff, but not board eligible currently 🙁
