It seems that the last few years, the number of applicants has been around the same, 42,xxx, according to :http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/charts1982to2010.pdf
It said that in the 2009-2010 cycle, the average number of schools applied to was 13.

I seem to read that many if not all schools are receiving more applications then ever before, someone told me that GW will get around 13,000, wow!

So, are there more applicants this cycle or are applicants applying to more schools?

Perhaps we will not know until the end of the cycle. Just curious.

Yeah I am really interested to see this cycle's stats. If anything I would agree with the argument that recent economic downturns would result in more people seeking MD as a stable career. I won't be surprised to see a big jump in # of applicants. But 13k applicants to GWU, that's amazing.

I think that thanks to better resources, such as SDN, people are probably applying smarter, which would mean applying to more schools to increase ones chances of getting accepted somewhere...but it is probably a little bit of both.
