i am a american citizen, offshore student (Saba). I have everything in for residency application except dean's letter (released today!) and my step 2 ck score (taking it this fri.!). Will the dean's letter lead to more interviews, or will programs wait for my step 2 ck score? i have only heard from 5/25 programs so far-->3 interviews (VCU, UVa, SUNY-Upstate) and 2 rejections (Tufts, Hopkins).

Wish I had the answer to that question, because I'm in the same boat. Taking CK in two weeks and want to know if I'll get more interviews.

When did you apply or get your stuff in for VCU and UVa? I applied a while back and haven't heard from them.

i was in the same boat last year. only got 5 ivs. i took my step 2 in mid jan so it was too late to get extra ivs or even maybe to make the rol. if u have a 99 on step 1 u will fare better as ur a good risk. (people with 99 on 1 step dont flunk other ones.)

So, I'm guessing your advice would be to take the interviews and leave the sounds of distant beating drums to others?

I didn't get a 99, but I'm sure that my 94 didn't hurt either.

Most likely yes, but it all depends. If you're taking Step 2 CK in 2 weeks, I believe it takes 3 weeks for the scores to be electronically released to the programs, so that means they wouldn't see them until the middle of December. For the most part, your doing well on Step 2 will strengthen your candidacy at the programs you already have interviews at due to them receiving your scores "late". As far as the Dean's Letter is concerned I feel you will get more interviews once it's released. Although there is no rhyme or reason as to the order in which applicants are offered interviews, I think that having a complete applicaiton in can only help your chances.

i applied at beginning of sept. with almost all of my application. some LORs trickled in. i did not have a 94 on step i only 87. also just got my passing csa in the past 2-3 weeks. still waiting on step 2 ck which i take friday. how many programs have you heard from?

I applied beginning of September, but most of my LoRs came in late October. I heard from 9/49 programs. 6 interviews: Roanoke-Salem, Morgantown, Columbia-Missouri, Mayo, Lubbock and Albuquerque. 3 rejections: Colorado, Vermont, Madison. Others have replied asking me if my Step 2 CK score and/or ECFMG certificate would be in time for their deadline.

My application has been complete since mid-October, including ECFMG certificate and CA letter, but I have not received any interviews. I suppose my USMLE record, although complete (except Step 3), doesn't look so hot. But I was hoping that being ECFMG-certified would help me get at least 1 interview so far. It's Nov 1st already!

When I was talking about a complete app I was referring to the MSPE's being released today. I'm not familiar with ECFMG certification or what it signifies but passing scores on USMLE step 1 and 2 should get at least a few interviews. Did you apply broadly or to a narrow range of programs?

The reason I responded above was that I noticed a few IMGs who received 3-6 interviews w/o having taken Step 2 CK...granted, they did not get a 75 on Step 1 like I did, but I did pass CK w/ a 90...although on the 4th attempt. So I can't help but be a bit jealous, however I also know that my stats are not the greatest. I applied to 53 programs covering 28 states and DC. Hope someone out there sees something good in my app!

goldengate,

I think that the reason you haven't heard is that your app might be filtered out by the PDs ERAS filter settings, though applying later than many (I applied Sept 1 to most of my programs) may have hurt you as well. In other words, they may not even be looking at the rest of your app.

I'm sure that the reason I got interviews w/o CK is because my app made it past some filters in time. I'm just as sure that my app got filtered out at a couple places because I don't have CK or the ECFMG certificate and expect additional rejections.

If you don't hear from programs in the next couple weeks, you may wish to start calling programs and ask them about your application status and see if they'd consider extending you an interview.

Good luck.

i am an img with a modest 83/ 85 on step 1 and 2.im ecfmg certified.applied to 37 programs so far with 1 intw in UVa (Roanoke) and 2 rejections. My MSPE is not released by my medical school yet.
