Most prestigious?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just wondering what you guys think is the most prestigious specialty. I know all specialties have their good sides but which do you think gets the most respect? I'm new here so I'm not sure where to post this...Sorry if its in the wrong place.

*Flame shield on*

EDIT: I'm specifically talking about Medicine...Thanks.

Are you serious?

I have to ask again, are you serious?

Seriously, can we just close this thread now?

Also, 3/5 of the OP's other posts are about taking the ACT. The other one is about nephrology which, I can assure you, is not the most prestigious specialty (although neither is mine, Onc).

Start w/ getting into college and go from there.

I agree with the other posters...concentrate on college, get into medical school and then start worrying about specialties and such.
We seem to be a group of planner and worriers (myself included).

Prestige is all about what YOU think is prestigious....to some it may be landing a coveted residency program, to others it may be to work in international health, for others it could be making tons of dough.

I am only an M2 and I will tell you that prestige is all about what you want. Some in my class want to be successful cardiothoracic surgeons, others want to do family medicine back in their small towns where they grew up. They are both prestigious goals...helping people live better lives...

The world (especially the medical world) is incredibly competitive at all times...so be happy with your goals and what you want to accomplish.

Also, you have no idea what all the specialties entail until med school and your rotations. Take a chill pill.

Just do what's best for you. Often times "prestigious institutions" have more resources to offer, which is a priority for many. BUT, choosing a specialty based on its prestige suggests that the person making this choice has significant insecurities. Work hard, stick with what you are passionate about, and be persistent. The rest will work itself out.
