Adcoms and others familiar with a behind the scenes look at the applications received by medical schools, I have a question for you. What percentage of apps would you estimate are actual contenders for the school? For example, what percent of apps have at least some volunteering, shadowing, 10 percentile GPA and 10 percentile MCAT? Just curious as to how many people "shoot their shot" with the chances of getting in with a 3.0, 500 mcat, and 15 volunteering hours. These are not my stats, but looking at the number of applicants some of these schools receive (north of 14,000), I find it hard to imagine a large percentage have a fair chance. Thanks!
