Can someone familiar with the NYEE and Mount Sinai programs clearly delineate between the two programs? What was the purpose of having them as two separate programs? Have they already merged, and if so, why? Tried searching in this forum but I couldn't find an explanation -- perhaps, I'm not typing the right keywords.

Merger already happened. It's New York Eye and Ear of Mt. Sinai. They're 2 completely separate residency programs and that won't be changing. Mt. Sinai Medical students can rotate at both. Mt. Sinai residents come and use wet lab resources at NYEE and this merger will help NYEE with research resources. Otherwise, everything really just remains the same.

Very helpful, thanks! My understanding is that NYEE is a bit more prestigious... Does that sound accurate? Do the two programs, though separate, share the same faculty? It seems like they share a chair.

Same chair but separate faculty and program directors. They are essentially two entirely different residency programs.
