Is it possible to move up your interview date if you call and ask??

Also, is it possible to call asking FOR an interview? Like say you are in the area for vacation/another interview, can you call them up saying that you are and ask to be interviewed within the next few days, even if you haven't heard back yet from them regarding interviews? A current student told me her friend did this, and then got in, so I was just wondering.

Also if ^ is possible, couldn't anyone just say they got an interview at ___ which is in the area (but in reality either didn't hear back yet/got rejected) and still get an interview at the school they call (if they did the method above)??? How would they have any way of verifying/checking this?

It depends on the medical school but a lot of them can be very accommodating (Especially if you have a legitimate reason). If they are interested in you then they would probably let you move up an interview date (Doesn't hurt to try)

Yes, if you ask nicely and have a good reason other than personal preference (scheduling conflicts, for example).

This is known as sending an "in the area" message. Note that directly asking for an interview would be rather, um...brash. Consider phrasing it differently.

Presumably by calling up the school you are purporting to have an interview with? I doubt playing the envy/jealousy card actually works. Not at this stage of the application process. (Financial aid post-acceptance is a different story.)

I had one school give me an interview when I sent an "in the area" email and one that didn't. So, some schools are receptive.

The key is to be very formal and polite. Don't ask for an interview per se, but mention you will be in the area for another interview, that you are traveling across country which is expensive, that you can't miss too much school/work, and ask them if they would consider accommodating you then.

Yes, you can do both of those things. But you should never count on them.

If you can, prepare your schedule so that you don't have to change interview dates. They won't always be able or willing to accommodate you. Some will if you have a legitimate reason, but don't count on it.

If you are going to be in an area, yes you can email and let them know. However, the best they're going to do is review your file and decide sooner if they want to interview you. Its not going to make a school who wouldn't have otherwise interviewed you offer you an interview.

As far as your last question, no one is going to bother to 'check' if you are really in the area because sending an 'in the area' email really gives you no advantage. If you get an interview you were going to get one anyway, if you don't you probably wouldn't have or they aren't willing to review your file early.
