I was doing a search and saw this recent post in the med section:

Is it possible to move up your interview date if you call and ask??

Also, is it possible to call asking FOR an interview? Like say you are in the area for vacation/another interview, can you call them up saying that you are and ask to be interviewed within the next few days, even if you haven't heard back yet from them regarding interviews? A current student told me her friend did this, and then got in, so I was just wondering.

Also if ^ is possible, couldn't anyone just say they got an interview at ___ which is in the area (but in reality either didn't hear back yet/got rejected) and still get an interview at the school they call (if they did the method above)??? How would they have any way of verifying/checking this?

Any takers on these questions and issues raised?

I've never personally heard of anybody calling up a school and asking for an interview. I don't think it would be very professional either. The application process is very time consuming and they have hundreds to thousands of apps to sort through for several months. All they will tell you in all likelihood is that your application is under review and you'll be contacted as soon as any update becomes available.

As far as rescheduling an interview once your receive one, it depends on the school. Some schools, such as Indiana, will give you a list of dates you can choose from. Other schools have specific dates set for you, and if you can't make it then it's tough luck for you. The school doesn't have to accommodate to your schedule, you have to accommodate to theirs.

Showing interest in a particular school is one thing, but inviting yourself for an interview? Definitely not recommended.

And putting a vacation trip over an interview sure won't impress the adcom.

Lastly, If you have multiple interviews, the best you can do push one of your interviews to a later date.

LMAO

"Good afternoon, My name is Simon Phoenix, I am calling to schedule my interview date at your dental school"

"sir... we never invited you"

Simon: "whats your point?!?"

So... about how much in advance do they schedule an interview for you? Because my family has planned a Europe trip since last year (before I even considered dentistry) and it's set for 2 weeks late August to early September. If I do get any interviews during that time frame, I might have to reschedule

I'm not completely singling you out or trying to be a total douche. I just happen to be in this thread.

As I'm reading this, I'm thinking how many of these 'leave the country' posts I'm seeing. I know it's out of your control and it's great you have these opportunities to travel. I'm just surprised at how casual some people are about this whole process. Maybe I'm just completely neurotic about it all, but the high priority travel seems to have over the application process baffles me.

i was under the impression that schools schedule specific interview dates where a batch of interviewees come. You can't just show up any random day when you happen to be in the city and ask to get interviewed.

So does the school schedule interview dates or do they usually contact you so both parties can schedule a convenient time?

depends on the school.

Some are lenient (they'll allow you to reschedule or call you first before scheduling, or have you call them to set a good date for you).... others (like Temple) are a little more strict.

True, usually its a specific day of the week, with many other candidates. If you want to screw yourself for a possible interview call them and ask for one. Also if you do have travel dates already in place schools will usually work with you on moving your interview day to one that works. They understand we have lives to live as well.

The majority of schools that I interviewed at gave me several dates to choose from. I think there was only one (Nova) that gave me a specific date.

I agree with Jeffity: I can't believe how many people are so relaxed about the process.

Just hope if you do get invited to interview that it doesn't happen during your trip.

Do they usually contact you via email, aadsas application, regular mail, or via phone?

"Hey guys, I was just calling to schedule my interview."
"We don't have you down as getting an invitation, sir."
"Yeah, I didn't get one, but I want to go to your school, so how does next Friday sound?"
-hang up, cash checks, shred application.

Who would even think to do that? Like others said, they will contact you (email, phone, followed by writing usually), and give you options for most, or a single date you need to make for others.

I would be interested in seeing someone try this though.

you can call and request an interview at Creighton after Dec 1. I have 2 friends that did it a few cycles ago. Not sure if they still do that, but they used to.
