I have been waiting for some activity at U Mississippi for over a month, and NOTHING. I have been told that I may be "marked" for the next available position, but UMC is small (class size = 31) and public. Should I be concerned? When does activity typically occur? At what point should I begin to be concerned? Any info would be appreciated.

good luck. It's the cheapest school in the country and their required stats keep getting higher and higher. I think most acceptances are done with by may, that's when everyone I had class with at ole miss got accepted there.

Thanks CJWolf - a week ago the dean of admis. left me a message to call him. Appearantly they had recieved a withdrawl letter and they had the dean's O.K. to admitt me. By the time I was able to call him, the girl who dropped had called and asked him to tear up the letter. That was an ugly morning.

I am in a similar situation as you are....although there are some differences:

1) I am #3 on a waitlist
2) The class size of the school I am waitlisted at is 66 (so it is about double the size of UMC)
3) Haven't received any phone calls to say I am off the list
4) I am on University of Illinois at Chicago's waitlist

Other than that same situation...public school...no out of state spots...very little movement...no other dental school in the same vicinity. I have moved 3 spots in about 3-4 weeks, but I doubt it will move that quickly in the near future. I have to say this sucks...but...I did get in somewhere else and am planning to go unless I come off the waitlist.

If he's the first on the list he's at least got a chance. Being as they're all instate is rough though, not that many people like paying out of state tuition when their state school is such a good deal. The people I know there now are enjoying it for the most part, apparently it gets easier after gross is out of the way.

I thought UMC took 36 people now?

I wish I had - I made the decision to pursue dental school this last spring/summer (I had just finished the coursework for a PhD. in clinical psychology but didn't feel right about a career in acedemia). Since it had been over 8 years since I had taken non-neural biology - and had never taken O-Chem - I didn't have exceptionally high hopes with the DAT. I decided to stay local and limit my application to UMC. My stats turnded out pretty decent, but they were a little uncomfortable with my Canadian citizenship.

If that doesn't work I'd just spend a while studying the review books for the DAT and bring up your scores on that quite a bit. Then you could at least apply to adjoining state schools, UAB, LSU, UT. I'm sure they'd look well on the coursework in psych.

You're probably right. My stats were DAT 18/19, Undergrad science 3.65. Taking a couple weeks to prep for the DAT the next time around, and of course now having taken orgainic chemistry may get me decent scores. I hate to think of wasting a year at my age, but you live - you learn.
