I just found out that most people move around during their clinical years. That really sucks. The thought is sort of deceiving because they all say you will be back in the states for year 3 and 4, but they don't say that you most likely will have to move from place to place.

I was wanting to start a family during those years (since I don't want to have a fam while on the island since fiance can't move there). I was just thinking I would go to one of the hospitals close by to where we are now to do my rotations, but now it is not looking so hot. I thought there would be nothing worse than being pregnant and on rotations....now I know you can be pregnant, traveling every few months AND on rotations...MUCH worse.

If I take this route I guess I have no choice but to wait another two years . I just want healthy babies so I don't want to wait too long!

If you go to AUC or SGU, you can go to the UK or Ireland (for AUC) for all of year 3. Many people with families do this and it works out really well for them. Then you can do your electives in the NYC area and live in one place and commute.

So you and your Sig other are older then 33 now? until 35 you both are OK in the clear, prime time is 25 to 30 years old.

Our ob/gyn is 37 and still shelling them (babies) out and plans on having another one. There are alot of factors so don't include yourself in a group you may ont belong.

Shelling them (babies) out lolz. Is he a doctor working in artillery?................

I thought that SGU give you an option to do all clinicals at one place like in NYC. Is that even true McGillGrad or Oldpro?

Thanks.

Yes, one of the benefits of SGU is that they have REAL clinical centers and a 10 year exclusive contract with a set of NYC hospitals.

You can do both clinical years at those hospitals and live in one place the whole time.

Other schools will probably do something similar in the future, although it could take a while to build up the capital necessary.

I have a friend who is doing his surgical clinical in Atlantic City Medical-City Division; just finished his Fam Pract clinical in UPMC Division. He's a USESOM student.

which has more quality clinicals, saba or auc? Which has more choice in planning location, not having to move around as much. How much moving around should be expected for each school?

From what I have heard through out the years is

The school may tell you you do not have to move around
But then magically you are told in year 3 you have to move around

Years ago AUC had no US clinical sites available and students had to go to england for clinicals ( this was about 4 or 5 years ago?) the lesson is hope you do not have to move a lot but reality is you may.

you go to some schools in Michigan, California and a few other states...some schools are very strict about only doing two clerkships at their schools, where some will let you do three....these universities are not some "no name" schools but are universities that are in the so called "top tier"....don't wait too long to apply. If you want to attend a two or three month clerkship for July.....call and get a confirmation in Fedruary or March....DO NOT WAIT TOO LONG LIKE MY FRIEND DID....THEY had a 15 month old and wife preg. and had to move every two months until they settled in a university that would let him stay until grad....oh, and he matched at his number one choice....good luck😀
