I signed my first lease for my apartment at university. What are essential items that I need?
I have NEVER done chores in my life. I'm 20 years old and my mother still irons my clothes, does my laundry, picks up my dirty clothes and folds and puts them away. She even sets my bed. I've never made myself a meal; she makes my breakfast, lunch, and dinner to this day.

I am completely dependent on her and I'm really worried about this also.

Other than that, what are things I will need to bring? What are somethings that might be nice to have?

P.S.
I went to spencers and bought myself a "sexy bitch" shot glass!

But on the real though...
How many towels should I bring? I shower 2 times daily and I use 2 towels...so that's 1 towel being used twice. I probably use one towel for a week, so I think I should bring 4 towels, no?

I don't have a tv, so I'm just gonna bring my laptop.

I have a bed there and a dresser. I'm gonna bring all my clothes and some dress attire.
Would it be a good idea to bring 2 weeks worth of underwear of 3?

How often do you want to do laundry? I do laundry when I run low/out of underwear, so that's on you. Buy more underwear if you feel you need more time between laundry sessions. I also would not recommend bringing all your clothes (unless your dresser can fit everything) - most of the time you'll find yourself wearing the same stuff, but again this is dependent on your laundry habits.

Don't forget about all your toiletry stuff - shampoo, bodywash, facewash, etc. If you won't find yourself at home much anymore, you will probably want to leave a set at your parents' as well. Think about all the tasks you don't do and get what you'll need to do them on your own.

You shower twice a day? It's actually better for your skin and general health to skip a day or two during the week, as long as you didn't get sweaty or otherwise stinky during the day.

I hate doing laundry (and also the machines in my building are $1.50 per wash and per dry) so I have like a month's worth of underwear and 3 sets of towels. The more you bring, the less often you'll have to waste time and money doing laundry!

Lol that is the truth. Especially around exam times. I wore the same sweatshirt pretty much every day last week...😀

But did you wear the same underwear, socks, or tshirt? 😕

clothes
bathroom stuff
phone charger
and your all good!

Underwear no, but I'll repeat everything else at least once as long as I didn't get sweaty or smelly (and I wear workout clothes if I plan to get sweaty!). Hence why I have a month's worth of underwear and not a month's worth of pants/shirts. Laziness + frugality + lack of smell = wear again! 😀

Honestly, this is probably 70, 80% of how I decide most of the time. 😛

I was so eager to move away that I didn't think about food. :smack: As my mom was dropping me off, she asked me about it. Uhhhh....
So I asked her to take me to a nearby 7-11 and I got a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter.

So my advice is load up on your favorite stuff before you go. Get your parents to take you on a shopping trip! 👍 Then you can figure it out from there.

Will you be cooking at the apartment? Is the kitchen furnished? If not, you'll need plates, bowls, silverware, a couple pans, cups, spatula, wooden spoon or similar, measuring cups, steak knives, bottle opener, cork screw (if you like wine), wait did you say 20 years old? I guess you'll still want one if your older friends bring a bottle over for them selves. 🙂

How is that "eww"? Many people don't have the money or resources to wash their clothes after every single use. It's a huge waste of water and money, especially when I just wear something to sit on the bus to school, sit in class, and sit on the bus home. Washing things often also destroys your clothes faster!

You could forgo wearing underwear and save some money that way. I only wear them when absolutely necessary, other then that....im just ballin out.

i had lived on my own before, but i moved across the country and left a bunch of stuff behind, so although i'd done it before, i still forgot stuff on the first, second, and third runs to the store. maybe your mom can come with you on your first big shopping trip... mine was very helpful in picking out the little things i didn't think of (bottle opener, can opener, coffee mugs, toilet brush, etc.). it can be exhausting and overwhelming when you're used to having someone help you with all those things, but you'll get the hang of it, so don't let it get you down when you're tired and missing all the things mom used to do for you.

also, as many underwear as possible. running out of underwear is always the only reason i do laundry and the longer that can be prolonged, the better, haha. also, i have 4 towels, because they take up a lot of room in the washing machine when you're paying per load, so i cycle them out and don't end up washing towels every time i do laundry.

goooood luck!

The only thing I will wear twice or multiple times is jeans. I can't get myself to wear shirts or anything else more than once without washing. As I've gotten older though I've learned that I seem to be in the minority on this. I guess I grew up doing that and now can't get over not wearing freshly washed clothes.
