I haven't been through it before, but I know it is seriously difficult to get reciprocity sometimes.
However, I just looked up GA LPC laws, and they look really loose. In the section I found all it requires is a masters with "two years supervision in a setting acceptable to the board." Since there are no accreditation conflicts with the education, you could probably become an LPC pretty easily.
It looks like the MFT requirements used to be really loose, and the tightened up in 2011. Now everything reads "subject to board approval" for out of state stuff. But I haven't found any such restriction for LPC. My opinion (non-professional hah) is that if its really worth it to you to keep the MFT designation, then document all your coursework, syllabi and everything and apply. I guess another question might also be if you could go ahead and receive your LPC to allow you to practice and then work on getting your MFT approved.
Sorry I can't be of any more help. 🙁 also, I don't know why you'd have to redo the 3000 hours, the board should take those under review as well.
