Are the any South Florida folks out there? Fort Lauderdale is my focus. What does the local retail market look like for pharmacists. In NC, where I am currently licensed we seem to be in a growing market that is now cooling off. Is the area saturated? Lean? growing?

Also, any direction to MPJE study aids would be greatly appreciated.

Thx for the reply. Have you seen or know of the existence of the UF Florida Law Review that I have read so much about in this forum? It seems many seek it, but nobody knows where to get it. Am starting to wonder if it even exists...

Did you transfer your license? Take the Florida MPJE exam recently? Did you find it easy?

I graduated from tOSU and moved down to take both my first NAPLEX and MPJE attempts in FL. Passed by the skin of my teeth (like a 79, passing is 75). Not sure how hard it is compared to other states though, I assume similar.

Kind of a late reply, but here it is. I live in Ft Lauderdale, have worked for Walgreens for 4 years, and currently a P2. Most P4s and graduating students are having a hard time finding jobs and if they do are only guaranteed "3 days a week." Most are going back for a residency, and recently I've heard that they are taking less pay.

Good lord, we need some determined leaders in this profession.

I agree with this post. I had such a bad experience with the job market in Miami/Ft Lauderdale (lived both places over a period of 4-5 years) that I didn't even take my interviews at any Florida schools. I came to Georgia for school and had no issue getting hired at the company I applied for. Everyone's experience is going to be different, some people in various Florida locations will either tell you it's not that bad, or that it's horrible. I definitely think it's possible to get a job down here, but it depends on your experience, if you interned for a certain company while in school, etc.

Plus... some people from "friendlier" locations of the US experience some culture shock and can be surprised by how "rude" people in south Florida are, not to mention the infamous "south Florida pain clinic" issue, but that's about the only downside. You will probably be getting paid the same as any other US location, but COL is pretty high (1000-1300/month for a "decent" one bedroom in Broward county, no utilities included)
