I'm an M.S.W. student at Hunter. After graduation, I am planning to fly back to the West Coast and stay with my parents, who live around Portland, until I can find a job. My wife and I want to move to the Seattle area, and I'm wondering how difficult it is to get a job there while living in Portland. Getting to the interviews isn't a question -- I would either drive or take a train early in the morning. My concern is that employers in Seattle may not want to hire someone who needs to relocate, albeit not a very long way. Also, I don't know how many Washington employers would recognize Hunter or hire a Hunter grad over a UW one.
Anyone have experience with the Seattle job market? If it helps, I would mostly be looking at government positions -- I'm particularly interested in the VA.
