Hi there friends

I have 2 questions and I would appreciate your input:
I am looking into relocating to either California or Washington state. Which one do you recommend? And why?

Also, I am considering doing license reciprocation .I’m currently Licensed in Texas. Does anyone have good notes or resources to study For CPJE and Washington MPJE law?

Thank you in advance guys ☺️ ❤️

Mind you that I live/licensed in neither state, but I'm considering both as well (more or so California, Washington as backup).
If you're equally interested in both and not looking for a specific city, Washington is probably a better choice due to lower tax rate and easier process to obtain pharmacist license.
I haven't really looked into Washington license, but California pharmacist license is a pain to obtain; I don't think any state can be harder than Cali.
The only pro of California is they have more metro cities (SF, LA, SD, etc), as opposed to Washington, it's pretty much just Seattle.
If you'd live for that (like I would), then California is probably a better choice.

Do you have a job lined up? I have no experience with CA, but I hear the CPJE is more difficult than the NAPLEX. I have a WA license that I got through score transfer when I first graduated and it was pretty easy. Take the MPJE and do a CE in AIDS education. Unfortunately haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I live in a border state and it makes me feel like I have options.

Hi there, I do not have a specific city in mind. I agree that Washington is probably a better choice due to lower tax rate and easier process to obtain pharmacist license; I heard their MPJE is easy. California has so many fees.
I hear SF is horrible in terms of cost of living and traffic. LA maybe the same. SD is still pretty good, but also expensive. I heard the job market is very saturated in SoCali. It is here in Texas as well. been trying to find a job here since sept ! where do you practice? how is the market there?

I do not have a job lined up. I have been searching for jobs in Texas and the market is pretty bad unless I want to work in the middle of nowhere or in not so safe places... Thank you for the advice 🙂 why would you recc to do the CE in AIDS education?
Do you have any notes for the Washington MPJE you can share? or know anyone who would? I'd appreciate it 🙂
which border state ?

Seattle is going to have a similar cost of living as any major city in California. I wouldn't overlook the smaller cities in Washington, like Tacoma or Spokane, as they are far more affordable.

Hi there, thank you for your comment. I want to be close to the amenities Seattle has to offer and in a city where I can find Pharmacist job and that is safe to live alone with my 2 little dogs. would you recommend Tacoma or Spokane? are they safe? how much would a 2B apr or house would be? also , do you have any good notes for the MPJE Washington? i'd appreciate it 🙂

For the MPJE, I bought a book published by a pharmacy law professor. Washington Pharmacy Law: A User's Guide by William Fassett.

Tacoma is smaller than Seattle, but it seemed cleaner and is much more affordable. It's close to Seattle too, although it's big enough to have plenty of things to do locally. Check local listings for actual prices, but in Seattle you are paying around $2k for a 1 bedroom apartment in many neighborhoods.

Thank you so much for the great info. How is the job market in Seattle? any non- traditional pharmacist jobs in Seattle you would recc?

It's hard to say. I moved here fairly, so I don't really have any local contacts in the pharmacy world. There's a pharmacy school in the city, so there is probably ample supply of pharmacists.

As for non-traditional roles, there happen to be several informatics positions open in the area. There are several EHR installs currently ramping up in the city. UW had a few positions open recently, and I seem to get daily reminders about a position with Evergreen Health.

Thank you for all the tips; I did notice those job posts and I have applied to them.
Do you mind me asking which state you moved from? and why?
How are you liking the Seattle so far? are there any areas you recc staying away from?
do you have any recc on how I can speed up the process of getting my License reciprocacy? I'd like to start working as quick as possible 🙂
I also saw this " AIDS Education and Training Attestation" what is that ? never heard of it before!
Does the finger prints and MPJE need to be done in Washington or can I do it in Texas before I move?
I am so sorry I am bombarding you with million questions ; but you are extremely helpful 🙂
