Okay here are my stats:

State school GPAc: 3.5 GPAs:3.3 MCAT: 27

I applied to ~25 schools and received two MD interviews. I don't think I'll be able to get into an MD school this year so I've been looking at other options. I'm really interested in the MS in Nutrition at Columbia. Are my stats competitive for that program? When should I apply?

You should save the significant amount of money that would be needed for this program and re-take the MCAT. No matter how many masters you get, they won't overcome a 27 on the MCAT. That's on the very low side for MD; DO is a more likely destination with that MCAT.

That being said, from what is reported in this forum - your stats are competitive, and you can apply anytime in the spring.

As I said, you have a solid GPA, and assuming you have all the other ECs in line then the only thing that is holding you up is the MCAT

+1.

If you really want to study nutrition, sure. It won't hurt, nor will it particularly help, your med school app. Gotta get that MCAT score up over average.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks guys. You're right, if I don't hear back by the end of December I'll start studying for the MCAT again. Verbal is my butt-kicker. Thanks for letting me know that my scores are competitive for the Nutrition program. I have a backup plan for next year now.
