i was wondering if anyone was rejected from dental school their first time applying. If so, is pursuing a Master's Degree a good safety? I don't know much about master's programs. I feel like I might need something to "beef up" my GPA a little bit. Can someone help and give some advice? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks🙂

probably not so significant that a person with horrible grades could get in just by getting a masters

I just was looking for some masters programs as safeties lists...

My GPA is a 3.6 and my DAT score is a 21.

Thanks

Same grades and scores I had and I got into dental school. Forget about the MS, you won't need it and if you have good LORs, Extracurriculars, etc. and you send your application in early you'll be fine.

No offense to anyone, but I always thought that going into a Master's program that you had no intention of finishing (just thinking it would sweeten the pot for d school aps) is selfish. If you got accepted to said program, it may have robbed someone else (who really wanted to be in the program) of a spot. Plus, it kind of shows that you don't have the dedication or seriousness that it takes to finish a post graduate program. I know some have gone this route, so don't flame me - it's just my opinion. A better (and cheaper, and easier) route is just to take more undergrad science classes post graduation. Many have done this to "beef up" that gpa. Adcoms don't seem to care at all.

you dont need safeties. Those are very high scores and you will have interviews at just about every school that you apply to. Make lesser dental schools your safeties, not graduate school!
