So far I find the results very surprising. Only 10-20hrs doesn't seem like much. Any reasoning behind this?

2 hours/day reviewing that days lecture notes during the week and 10 hrs during the weekend drilling in the details for a total of 20hrs/wk. the week before an exam is another story though. =)

Some people just don't need to study much to learn the material. Others are in class A LOT (30-35 hrs of class a week) so this accounts for a lot of first-pass learning. I find by going to class and really paying attention I don't have to study outside of class as much. I also don't feel a huge need to strive for honors and if you're in an H/P/F system, getting Ps is a lot less stressful and requires a lot less studying than going for the Hs.

this semester I have to put in 2 full days on the weekends but I don't do barely anything during the week, maybe 2-3 hrs one day. the nature of classes this semester mean I actually get something out of going to class, so I go.

last semester I never went to class but I probably still only put in the same amount of time, preparing for gross lab didn't feel like studying. I would say they have really picked up the pace in our classes this semester.

Twenty hours is almost a whole day. Think about it like that. Or two solid ten hour study sessions per week. Or studying four hours per day and taking the weekends off. You get my point. This should be enough for anybody, at least if you don't care whether you are in the top twenty percent of the class or you are a slow learner.

I think people tend to vastly inflate their reports of study hours. I bet if most people kept a log book they'd be suprised. While we'eve all had times when it seemed like all we ever did was study, looking back I'm sure most of us could identify whole weeks, especially after a big test, where we pretty much did nothing.

Just my thoughts on the subject. Don't flame me.

2-3 hrs a day during the week and one 5-6 hr day on the weekend and the other off when not preparing for exams...like someone else said...the few weeks before exams is a different story. those 2-3 weeks before exam weeks i'm almost living at the library. these estimates are of actual studying too, i do spend some time slacking by e-mailing, and reading the news and sports on the internet which adds a little bit of time to it.
