MS4 here, finished with all Interviews, passed step2 ck and cs, passed all my school’s required MS4 rotations. However, my current 3 month research elective mentor is pissed at me because I did a half-ass job for a project that I did not initially sign up for but was kind of forced to take on (I did A LOT of work for the project I actually signed up for). Is there any way he could potentially hold me back from graduating medical school?

worst case you probably just have to do some more work for him or tack on a different elective at the end of your schedule. doubt you would be unable to graduate

As long as you did some effort to show that you “worked” for the 3 months, I’m not sure how they could hold up your graduation. You should straighten this out ASAP as you may still have time off that you could remediate a research month and get the credit.
Sounds like you shot yourself in the foot for no reason. Get it together.
You signed up for the research months, you gotta do the research. If I took you in and you half assed my project, wasted my time, and squandered an opportunity for someone else, I’d be pretty pissed as well. And if you weren’t remotely repentant and/or tried to cover up your laziness and inadequate work product, I might be calling the dean and recommending not giving you the full credit as well.

I hope not. Talk to PI.

They said a good bedside manner can prevent lawsuits. Maybe it will work in this case. 😀
