Hello, I am currently a PA student and I was wondering if anyone knew if PAs could volunteer with Doctors Without Borders. I checked their website, and it mentions NPs, but would PAs just fall under that category? I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to, but if anyone has any idea, I'd love to know. Thanks.

Wow, nevermind. I just found on the site's FAQ that they don't accept PAs because the "primary care role" is filled by the native providers or something. Because PAs only practice in primary care...

I have heard of medical missions that take PA's and PA students, if you have the sponsorship of one of the sending organizations and a physician also, then you should be able to go and do work. I know the program I am entering in fall sends a PA on a mission to honduras, and the minute I get in the doors in august I am going to be inquiring about how I get to be one of those PA-S.

Just dig a little deeper, and don't take No for an answer, these groups want medical help, just prove to them you can give it!
