I recently requested that my medical school upload my MSPE for my fellowship application and prior to doing so, they actually sent me a copy as well. It is the same one they used for my residency application a few years ago and is the first time I have seen it. It has an old date (from the year I applied to residency) and mentions that I am working as a research assistant. Is this typical? Should they not update the date and mention that I am currently in residency? Also, one of the positive feedback that is mentioned from a prior core rotation as a third year mentioned that I was interested in another specialty (which I was at the time being undecided), is this bad?

Seems kind of odd to just use the same MSPE from so long ago without any changes.

That's normal. Don't worry about it.

The MSPE is an odd thing to include for fellowship application IMO, and I don’t think it’s even looked at closely. Don’t worry

It's mostly there for the comments. Agree it's kind of odd and didn't add much to any application I reviewed. But it's there anyway.

We required them for our fellowship applicants, mostly it was a requirement from the medical school. We payed no attention to grades or scores from medical school, mostly just browsed the comments to look for professionalism concerns.

In nearly every case good in training/board scores follow good medical school performance and the same is often true for strong recommendations and comments. Similarly, if there was an issue in medical school it almost invariably reared its head in residency as well.
