i apologize ahead of time but i am really uncertain. i would rather live in manhattan but did get a better vibe at einstein (although due to the short amount of time i spent at both schools i dont know what this 'vibe' actually represents...). i should point out that i know einstein doesnt give any need-based grants and i would definitely qualify for them. i dont know about MSSM (so please chime in if you have any info) since i was just accepted today.

thanks so much in advance!

You know, you can live basically anywhere in NYC besides Staten Island to go to any of the above schools. True, living in Brooklyn/Queens and going to Einstein can mean long hours but that's what I did for High school (house in brooklyn, school in Bronx) and that two hour subway ride is very doable 😳 .

I say MSSM because of many factors. It is somewhat cheaper and a higher percentage of students get aid. Going to school in Manhatten also means you can head to a good library (Donnell or Mid Manhatten) quicker after classes if you need a good place to study. The neighborhood around the school is probably safer too. Also note that Einstein requires a thesis/research to graduate, whereas it is optional in MSSM. That might factor into your decision if you don't enjoy research. Lastly, to relate to my first paragraph, if you don't want to live in dorms you can find cheap housing in Brooklyn or Queens and MSSM will be easier to access from those boroughs.

Regardless of which one you choose, congratulations on getting into two fantastic schools.

I interviewed and was accepted by both. Mt Sinai was definitely my top choice. I didn't really consider einstein after I visited. The whole area seemed bombed out and there wasn't even a place to eat nearby. (except for the mcD's in the hospital). Subway access is poor.

Sinai's like 6k / yr cheaper + it's got a much tighter vibe among the students. The class is smaller. The md/phd's take classes with the md's (at einstein they don't).

If you want a bigger class with older students einstein might be better, it's supposed to have a rep as being a haven for socialized medicine, if you're into that stuff. Sinai didn't seem a slouch in that area - they've got a couple of students who are doing a lot of international experience.
