Hey future MSU-CHMers. I'm currently holding a spot at MSU-CHM for the Class of 2011 (woohoo!). However, I'm still hoping to get off the waitlist at other schools. I had a positive experience at CHM on my interview day, but other than that, I don't really know too much about the school. Anyone else out there who's NOT originally from Michigan (i'm from Cali) also planning on attending CHM? I just want to know what you've heard, learned, or concluded about the school and what it's like placing for residencies especially outside of the state of Michigan? I know it's ranked in the top 20 for primary care, which is awesome, but I wanna know from someone who's talked to a student or knows someone personally at CHM what it's like studying there when they've never been in Michigan before in their entire life. I just need more info to decide where to go, if and only if, I get off other waitlists. Thanks!

I don't exactly fit what you're looking for (from MI, just applying now), BUT I did speak to some women from the med school when they came to the med school fair this past fall. They were both from out of state (can't remember where), but they said they really enjoyed their classes and the environment and school. That's all they said though. Sorry I can't help more.

Here are some things I can tell you about the school in general, though:
👎 East Lansing is boring as hell.
👍 My brothers agree that the ladies are hotter there than in Ann Arbor (but this could just be an undergrad trend).
👍 If you celebrate Christmas/enjoy Christmas decorations, downtown Lansing is very close and has a great little ceremony for the tree-lighting in November.
👎 East Lansing is in the middle of nowhere, really. Okay, no, it still just sucks, haha.
👎 Lots of snow. And wind. And cold. And possibly walking, but I don't know how spread out the med campus is and where med students live, so the walking part could be false.
👍 Good bars and parties, if you can ever find the time to go to them in med school.

Haha. Yeah, East Lansing was super boring, but the people were really cool. I guess it'll keep me less distracted from my work, which will be a good thing. Thanks for the heads up and good luck!

Thanks! I hope you get off the waitlists you really want.

I'm currently holding a spot at MSUCHM too and am hoping to get off a waitlist at another school and have yet to hear back from one school post interview (they're really lagging!)

Anyways, I know that chicago is 3-4 hours away by train and I will be going there partying on the weekends. I'm hoping to make it there at least once a month. Anyone else find east lansing boring is free to join me =)

Ann Arbor is not as exciting as Chicago, but it's definitely a lot closer (~1 hour depending on how fast you drive). Just a thought.
