Class of 2009 Makes History

It’s always been said that each year of students makes its place within MSUCOM history, but for the class of 2009, they’ve chiseled themselves into the chronicles on their first day.

Most of the first year students are here earlier than usual as part of a new curriculum system. With the new system, they take anatomy as their only class during the summer before they begin their normal fall semester schedule.

Secondly, this class will have 205 students this year, making it the largest class in the history of the college.

That sounds great! Makes sense to get anatomy out of the way so students can gently ease into their medical school curriculum. So the class of 2009 is the biggest ever? This was true for DMU also. I think DMU is going to cut down the number of acceptance they give out and more waitlist. That's what I heard so don't quote me on it. I hope MSUCOM is not going to do the same. Is this their "permanent" class size goal?

When I went to talk to Tamara Cox she said that they were trying to expand the class permanently. Atleast that's what I got out of the conversation. She also said that the Dean Mr. Strampel is one who is motivated to see MSUCOM expand in as a whole. That's why there has been talk generated about another campus located in Troy. Don't quote me on the campus location, but I am almost certain that this is the location they want.

Hey FutureDoc,

You seem like your genuinely interested in MSUCOM. Did you send in your secondary yet? Mine is due August 8th, but they did say that you can get an extension. I'm wondering if they are interviewing a lot more applicants now? Because if they keep interview statistics the same, that gives us what seems like a good chance of acceptance if we are granted an interview. Anyway, good luck!

Yeah I'm genuinely interested in it. But then again I'd be happy to go anywhere as long as it's a medical school LOL. About the due date, I cannot find the due date on mine. The cover letter mentions the "due date indicated above" but I do not see one. All it says above is ***Anticipated Dates 2006: Orientation Begins July 6th & 7th, Classes Begin July 10th. I received the secondary on 7/21 and sent it out today 7/28 (woohoo! finally!) via regular mail. I just placed it out in my mail box for the mailman. I might have to get an extension if my LOR writers do not get their letters in on time. So is your due date exactly 2 weeks from the time you received your secondary?

Nevermind! I just looked at the email they sent me. It says my deadline is August 8th. Good deal! The deadline is for the secondary application and LORs right? Is the due date the postmark date or when it's suppose to be on their desk? Oh yeah, what about the statistic did you say would help our chances?

Sorry if I ask too much 🙂?

I just looked at their website. It says that "more than 90% of the students in the entering classes are Michigan residents." I'm not from Michigan. I guess my chances are slim, 10% 🙂. Oh well, that's better than nothing. Where are you from?

Anyone know what the "status check" link will be for MSUCOM? They sent me an email stating there would be an online status check starting August 1.
