I remember reading somewhere on here that summer anatomy is mandatory for first year students. Is this fact? If so do they ever make exceptions for people?

I am pretty sure it is mandatory, but I would email Dr. Falls for a sure answer.

It is mandatory because this is when they begin their curriculum. They only run the anatomy course in the summer. I would think it would be pretty near to impossible to skip it and take it the next summer, as at all med schools anatomy comes first. If it would be absolutely impossible for you to start in the summer, you may be looking at requesting a deferral.

Contact the office ASAP to see what your options are.

Anatomy is also offered in the fall semester. Generally, osteopathic students take it in the summer and allopathic students take it in the fall. It MAY be possible to take it in the fall, but they will probably discourage it (I mean they will tell you NO). Having two med schools limits the space plus MSUCOM believes that having anatomy separate from your other classes lets you focus on anatomy first and also allows you to take less classes in the fall (who wants 20 some credits?).

If you absolutely need to start in the fall, I would contact them.
