I just interviewed on Monday (1/26) and my interviewer said there were many seats still available and in fact, it was still relatively early. She said not to worry about the alternate list until March and April.

Honestly, start worrying in June. I am positive that they use most people off of the alternate list, but not until May.

okay. March, April, and May have passed. it is now June. does anyone know the progress of msucom?s waitlist? i?m in the 2nd quartile at msucom. what do you think my chances are?? i have searched every msucom waitlist thread on this forum and not one explains the quartile system or which quartile generally get accepted. is anyone else in the same boat as me? the following post, however, does give me slight reassurance. does anyone know how accurate it is?

The alternate lists generally don't really start moving until June, when folks start making up their minds, and deciding where they are going to go.

i?ve really searched every msucom waitlist thread. i have absolutely no idea how many people are on the waitlist or where i stand. it?s driving me crazy. here are two more posts. but... they're old.

I did try getting some stats - I was told that the least amount of people accepted off the waitlist in the last few years has been 25, where the most has been over 50. I was also told that last year everyone off the waitlist got in but that may not be from an accurate source...

I have heard encouraging words from the admissions staff at com and they have repeatedly said that people on their waitlist either get in there or go to another school. So being an alternate at msucom is a pretty good thing, unlike many other schools.

It would seem that if you are 2nd quartile, you would have excellent odds this year. Of course, this would be assuming a similarity in enrollments between this year and years past.

That being said, don't put all your eggs in one basket and have a good idea of what you want to do if you're not accepted or if it's an option, where else you could see yourself attending. Best of luck!

I think there will be more movement as people decide where they want to go. The school I'm waitlisted at gives people 3 weeks to decide. So the first round of people taken off the waitlist right after May 15 still have a week left to decide. I think movement will really pick up around mid/end of June. Some accept through the week of orientation. Don't give up yet, it's not over till it's over! :luck:

I have no words of encouragement because I am also in the same boat as you. The second quartile. i guess we just wait and see...do you have another acceptance?

lo - call the school and ask for kathy schaffer, she can explain the quartile thingie as well as where you sit, within reason. she is very good with prospective students and an asset to msucom.

I was in the first quartile this year. I got a call May 27 from MSUCOM. I declined the acceptance offer. I was on the alternate list for MSUCOM last year and didn't get in so it is not true that everybody got in. I talked with Kathy S. and she said that as of July 2003 they had only taken a few people off the alternate list and it looked like the class was full for the year. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

what quartile were you in last year????

i did. i had a wonderful conversation... "i can't tell you that" and "i can't tell you this." i know as much as i did before i called her. but i did make slight progress - not everyone in the 2nd quartile is offered a guaranteed spot to join the class of 2009 (i was). some are only promised a guaranteed interview. so if you're like me, then that probably means we're in the upper portion of the 2nd quartile... i think. at least that's something. did anyone else talk to her and get any solid info??

when did she say this? during this year or last year's application cycle? did kathy schaffer say anything like this to anyone else? this is terrible. so exactly how many people are a few? a few can be a lot... right?

hey everyone, from what i understand, there has been some recent movement on the msu waitlist. i spoke with an admissions rep last week, and it was encouraging. i originally was placed in the second quartile on the alternate list but have now moved up to the top quartile. hope that helps!!

any updates this week?

I have to be getting near the top of the list...
