Hi All,

I need to vent, and figured there was no better group of people that would truly understand my frustration than the SDNers. My physician's letter of recommendation was officially lost in the mail. The letters were supposedly sent on 11/23 to all of the schools, but as of today no school has received them. I believe it is because the office manager at the physician's practice did not put the return address on any of the envelopes, so the post office held them and were never sent. My file will be complete upon arrival of this letter of recommendation, so now I have lost 3 weeks of seniority against other applicants. This sucks cause now all the MD students who didn't get into school will be my competition. I have really good stats 27O MCAT and 3.4 GPA with a ton of research, clinical experience, and extracurricular activities (the reason I applied so late in the cycle is because I hake taken the MCAT in September). Moreover, I have also applied to all of the top DO schools, which the MD students will be sure to apply to: CCOM, AZCOM, PCOM, DMU. I'm from Chicago so of course I'd love to go to CCOM, but I am pretty sure with this delay, my chances are grim. Thankfully, some of the schools begin processing your application without all of your letters of recommendation, so I have already received an interview at NOVA. But regardless, this situation sucks and I am pissed!

Please send me some love, condolensce, or similar situations so that I know I am not totally screwed and there is some light ahead.

Thanks.😡

Is the physician letter from a DO? If it is then that will get you ahead of the people who are applying to DO as a back up. From what I understand, DO schools really want people interested in Osteopathic medicine and not just because they couldn't get in elsewhere. So a DO letter would keep you in the game. Best of luck!!

Hi udsoccer. I had a similar problem when I applied last year, except with my Pre-med committee letter. I applied late in the cycle because I was waiting on my August MCAT scores (to see if I did well enough to bother applying), so I was stressed anyway. And then the genius secretary in the pre-med dept. at my college misfiled the letter, which was ready to be sent out in December, and I thought it was all set until FEBRUARY (yes, FEBRUARY) when I received several letters from schools saying they were missing the LOR. To make a long story short, I still ended up getting several interviews in April, and even some acceptances. We have VERY similar stats, so the way I figure, you're in an even better position than I was, because it's only December, and you can get your letter sent back out right now and still get interviews, where you can show how worthy you are to go to places like CCOM. 👍

Also, it might help to call the admissions office and explain your dilemma. What do you have to lose? And it might help. Good luck!! :luck:
