If a student is still not very sure where should he/she go due to a family situation/ possible marriage, can he/she put a deposit in more than one school. Only the first deposit and then will withdraw one in few weeks and the spot will go eventually to another person-no ethical lectures please. I have a family problem here.

Other than financial reasons, what are the disadvantages of doing so??

Thanks SDNers!

There should not be a problem. There are no disadvantages.

Place as many deposits as you want/can afford. Schools don't know, and many people do it when they're unsure about which school they want to attend.

I wouldn't withdraw from any school until they finalize any financial aid offers. You never know what might be coming. I had a military scholarship and the university I attended offered me an additional scholarship to cover the total estimated cost of attendance, including a reimbursement of the taxes I paid on the stipend. Your last choice school might look a hell of a lot nicer with a big grant.
There is a deadline for a reason, you can hold all the spots you earned without any guilt.
