Hello! I am an URM with a low AMCAS GPA (cGPA = 2.72, sGPA = 2.75) and a significant upward trend (4.0 for the last ~60 credits I've taken). Please note that this AMCAS GPA was calculated in 2016 and I have taken non-degree graduate level classes and enrolled in an SMP since then. I currently have a 4.00 in my SMP and will be graduating this May, if all goes well for the remainder of the semester, at the top of my class. (My SMP is at an MD-granting school)

I've taken the MCAT a total of 4 times. 🙁 The first two times were in October 2014 and January 2015 because I was rushing to take the MCAT before the 2015 version rolled in. I scored a 23 and a 25, respectively. To be honest, I barely studied and I know that I made a huge, potentially dream ending, mistake. I took the new MCAT for the first time in May of 2016, a week after I graduated from undergrad and I scored a 501. I took it for the fourth time before I started my SMP in August of 2018 and scored a 506. I am currently registered to take the exam on June 15th and scored a 515 on AAMC FL 1.

I understand that adcoms can see every score that I've gotten, but also that scores expire after three years (for some schools, after 2), meaning that my only valid scores would be my 506 and whatever I earn this summer. How will schools view my multiple attempts at the MCAT, especially considering that two of them were the old version? I have heard that some schools automatically will not interview you if you have taken the MCAT more than three times, let alone 5. How will adcoms receive a high MCAT score (520+ for example) from a candidate like me? Thank you for your time 🙂
Come back when you have your score and then we can advise.

As of right now, chances best for your state MD, ANY DO school, and a few other MD schools.
