Not really, no. If both applicants are qualified and competitive they will both be looked at regardless if they came from the same dental school. You see a lot of OMFS candidates match from schools like Columbia and UPenn for example and high chance they could become co-residents if they are both ranked highly.
They don’t care. They evaluate each applicant independently.
I’ll tell a funny story. Years ago 4 of us from the same dental school class interviewed at a well known program. My classmate (he externed there and they liked him) and personal friend was asked on the formal interview : who would you rather have as your co- resident… A or B (B was me by the way and A was the most competitive gunner you’d ever meet). He was shocked by the question but also knew they wanted a straight answer. He smiled and said B. We still laugh about it.
Oklahoma had two chiefs from the same school. VCU has two 3rd years from the same school. Michigan has two interns from the same school. Mayo Clinic had twin brothers as co-residents.
Seems like they just want to best applicants, if they come from the same school then whatever.
