Does anyone know if ACGME would fund 2 separate residencies (i.e. medicine and then anesthesiology)? I am currently in IM, but almost went into anesthesia. I dont like general IM, but am not sure about any IM fellowship. I've heard of people doing IM and then anesthesia, but most of those ppl are older attendings.

Instead of doing an IM fellowship, would it be possible to do a 3 year anesthesiology residency after graduating from IM?

Short answer: yes although your total funding will be reduced which makes some less attractive to programs.

Longer answer: please do a search because this answer has been asked (and answered) a kajillion times.

What, exactly, are you interested in? I've lost count. Pain? PM&R? Anesthesia? Medicine? I ask because I'm curious what your end goals are.

I wanted to do pain initially, but wasn't set on anesthesia or PMR, decided to go into medicine because it had the most options for subspecialty.

You can still do pain as a subspecialty of IM, can't you?

So, what you're saying is that you are having difficulty in figuring out what you want to be when you grow up (ie - finish residency)?
