This is a super specific question and something I have been trying to get a concrete answer for in the past couple of months. I am a second yr osteopathic medical student and I want to eventually apply to MUSC's family med program for residency. Does anyone know (from past experience of applying, etc.) if they want DO students taking the usmle? They do have DOs in their program, and some of their subprograms (tidelands as one) say on their website that they accept comlex in place of usmle. Do they prefer students to take the USMLE if they are not MD? Thanks!

Hey Checkers027!

OMS4 here that already interviewed with MUSC FM this year. Can't speak to Tidelands. The main campus MUSC FM Residency gladly accepts COMLEX. They said during the interview they have a cut off, per Freida of 470 (I scored above this, unsure of their true cutoff), and then after that they really care about who you are outside of academics. Seemed like a great program, consistently ranked top 25 per US News and World Report. It moved up to one of my top after interview, I was very impressed. Super strong medicine service at a tertiary referral center and brand new peds hospital with what I believe to be the only lvl 4 NICU in SC, plus great ED exposure at a lvl 1 trauma center.

If you have any other questions about their program I can share info gathered during interview and about other programs. Feel free to DM me.
