Hello everyone! Wanted to ask any non-trads accepted to MUSC/USC Greenville or Columbia what your stats and background were? Are they pretty accepting of non-trad students? What areas do they seem to put a big emphasis on as far as background? ECs? Volunteer? Research? Any info would be appreciated! I'm definitely a ways away from applying but just wondering. Thanks!

Greenville is most OOS friendly. If you don’t have strong SC ties I wouldn’t apply to MUSC or Columbia.

I am an SC resident. I am trying to stay here so I wanted to see if I could get as much info as I could about the med schools here. Thanks!

Oops! Not sure why I got the idea you were OOS. They all seem willing to accept nontrad students, and seem to put a larger emphasis on volunteering/medical experience than research but it would be good to have both.

MUSC - median IS GPA 3.83, median IS MCAT 510. Seems to place more value on research than other two.
USC Columbia - median IS GPA 3.81, median IS MCAT 509. Largest proportion of older students.
USC Greenville - median IS GPA 3.85, median IS MCAT 510. Most friendly to OOS.

I would invest in MSAR if you don't already have it. That is where I found these numbers.

Thanks I appreciate it! Are you an SC resident or just interested in SC schools? I wonder how they'll look upon a lower cumulative gpa but higher MCAT. I also am an RN in the OR last 2 years, intermediate ICU and PCU before that. Military vet but not in a medical field. Haven't gotten research or volunteer experience yet but I am also just beginning my journey. Haven't even started pre reqs yet haha. Thanks for the info!!

I got accepted to USC-Greenville as a non-traditional. You need a 510 or higher if you are OOS trying to get into any of the three schools. I am IS and had a 503 and a 3.93 PharmD gpa and got an interview at all three. Decent amount of research but not a lot. As an RN you have great experience now knock out those pre-requisites with great grades and I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere

Forgot to respond earlier. I’m a NC resident. I think you’ll have some leeway w GPA if you are in state. OOS MUSC has a minimum of 3.7 gpa.

Do you think a 3.5 and a 510 would get an interview in state ?
