Okay here is my situation, applied last cycle and currently waitlisted at 3 schools and rejected from all others. I am a Michigan resident and the schools I am waitlisted at are UDM, U of M, and Midwestern. I have a BS - Major Bio, Minor Chem.

I want to get my application in as soon as possible for the next cycle in case I end up not getting in this try and with June 1st coming up I really am having trouble on figuring out what to do. Should I reapply right away or wait to hear back from the 3 schools that I am waitlisted? If I apply to schools for the 2010 cycle, does that look bad upon those schools I am currently waitlisted at?

My Science GPA is ~3.4
Overall GPA ~3.5

DAT is as follows
PAT-19
QR-17
RC-20
BIO-19
GC-18
OC-22
TS-19
AA-19

I talked with one person dealing with admissions from a school I was rejected at and was told the two biggest negatives to my application were my volunteering hours and my personal essay. I have plans to do a lot of volunteering this summer, but applying June 1st wont allow me to reflect that volunteering work on my application.

Looking for any advice on what to do

Thanks!

Well I definitely wouldn't wait until August to re-apply, since you are on the waitlist and you may not even hear back from those 3 schools until then. Since you were told that you needed more volunteering hours, I would look to do volunteer work for the next month and then submit your application by late June. Submitting anytime in June would still be considered early. Also, re-write your PS over and over again and have it edited by the school, your evaluators, friends, etc. Your GPA and DAT scores are fine, so I wouldn't worry about those. You pretty much have the average stats for entering students. Just get in those volunteer hours and you should be good.

Thanks 4thmolar for your advice, any one else have any comments?

So why is your personal statement a negative? And for volunteer hours, you can always update the schools after you submit the application.

It is hard to imagine a ds that does not accept a competitive applicant simply because he/she is lacking volunteer hours. The ps, on the other hand, is a totally different animal. By your statement, if those were the two biggest, it sounds like there were other factors on the list.
