This chain was heavily recruiting me after I was fired from the previous DMO. After my firing, I was sick of corporate dentistry and almost bought a 1.2 mil practice. I was too blinded (again from another post) to see my wife's negative reaction. She didn't want the risk of failure and added stress so she rather we live modestly. So I got my $20k bonus and signed up. There are a lot of details with this place.

$20k equals $10.4k after tax. If you decide to leave in a month, you have to return pro-rated 11/12 mos of that full $20k...a lot of it out of your pocket. I'm not sure about the numbers when you file taxes to try to retrieve that money. I left after 8 mos and they haven't come after me for that remaining bonus.

There are reasons why dentists don't last longer than 6 mos there. Any nightmare stories you can think of may apply to many of their locations. I was top dog at the DMO before they fired me...I will post at a later time...and had too much confidence that I can make it work. It wasn't worth the stress. I don't know the full details of owning these franchises other than their purchasing price is too expensive because you are buying into their marketing and you have to follow their model. My CPA friend gave me a dirty look suggesting that only a fool would consider it. The previous owner sold it back to corporate because she was losing money.

After 19 years of not doing any dentures, I got efficient and profitable with them. I learned from a combination of different dentists' and technicians' advice. I would like to post my way but I want a prosthodontist to review it before doing that.

Production is shared...sometimes the denture technician or hyg may get paid more than you because of the number of dentures, SRP and Arrestin placed. Yes the hyg has incentive to do more SRPs and Arrestin. That means her probing depths are usually 2 to 3 mm deeper. I had a board complaint because the patient went to another practice and they said his gums were fine. He filed against me and not the hyg.

Had the 3 best DAs I've ever worked with...not specific to the chain but to the location. One of them even followed me to my present location and we could almost make dentures by magic...see my empty hand...here's your Hollywood dentures.

They sent me to observe some of the higher producing owners. Bottom line...crown every tooth and implant every missing teeth. Dentures for the technician's new car.

You need to pay for malpractice tail coverage after you leave. For 2 years tail of only working 8 mos was $1667. That left a bitter taste.

Not sure if this happens to other locations but there are constant board complaints almost all to my predecessors but under my name. I received notice of my only one which happened my last month working there.

At least my family didn't starve, but I aged a little more than I liked.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Many people do not like speaking out but you're doing a good deed. Even when one has the best of intentions, unfortunately, the system we're in can be the one that takes a jab at us. P.S. please share your denture technique 😀

I love to share but I want a prosthodontist to review it first. You can PM me. I think after 19 yrs without doing it, it is so easy and predictable, it's almost highway robbery. It has to be done right or the patient will come back numerous times or request a redo. I PMed a prosth but he hasn't responded.

Are you talking about using Accudent material and using a syringe to get the attachments in the vestibule and then covering the ridge with another color and taking an impression and that is it? Or taking mush bites for fully edentulous patients?

No, traditional way minus a few steps. I learned a few short cuts from my technician. I only did about 20 cases in 3 yrs. I just don't know the long-term effects of those shortcuts and I might be banned for selling snake oil.

If this technique is easier, very predictable and less costly, I'll love to learn it as well. Please PM me this technique.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with us with corporate dentistry. Would you recommend having your own office after a couple of years of being an associate even with the risks that come from opening denovo?

I have no experience with any ownership. I was going to buy a 1.2 mil office with the owner staying and mentoring for 2 yrs before retiring. I thought that was the way to go. I hope that works for you.
