I have a very solid GPA, clinical grades, 223 (90) on USMLE Step 1. My step 2 score is low: 191 (79). What are my chances of securing an anesthesia residency in NYC?

you shot yourself in the foot by taking step 2 and scoring low. anyhow,,there is a chance granted you have good letters and somewhat of a research background. USMLE scores are impt but not everything

goodluck

Why did you score so badly on step 2? I did well (229) on step 1 and plan to take step 2 early, after having studied during my 3rd year psych rotation (6w), and an easy 4th year rotation (4w). Naturally I don't want my score to go down, and I'm confident in my test taking skills, but stories like your's concern me.

I honestly have no idea why I did so poorly on Step 2. I've been in shock since I got my scores in the mail last Friday. I studied for 2 months, did 2,500 questions, and scored 79% on the NMBE Released Items. If you did well on Step 1, I highly recommend withholding Step 2 until after your interviews.
After having already taken Step 2, is it possible to not report my score?

you cannot selectively choose not to report step 2. if you try to , they will not report step 1 either

where did u this get this info from? everyone else have told me that it is possible to not report Step 2.

call usmle (NBME)and get the answer yourself!

When you register for ERAS you have to indicate whther you want automatic USMLE score reporting... Once you click that box you cannot change it. Therefore as soon as your step 2 results come back they will get auto-reported to every program to which you applied.

You CAN (if I recall) choose to selectively send different programs your scores, but I think apma is correct in that you cannot selectively send Step I vs. Step II scores. If you choose a program to receive your step scores, they will get whatever the nbme has for you...
