Hello everybody.

A couple days ago I took the the DAT, and lets just say I am less than pleased with my scores haha... here they are

Standard Score Percentile
Perceptual Ability 18 55.3
Quantitative Reasoning 16 65.3
Reading Comprehension 18 52.2
Biology 19 83.5
Gen Chem 20 86.0
Organic Chem 19 75.7
Total Science 19 82.8
Academic Average 18 72.5

I dunno why but I completely ran out of time on the QR...which helps to explain the 16.

My GPA is about a 3.5 and the same goes for my science GPA.

I am really looking at applying to Temple and some other state schools in Pa along with others along the East coast.

I was just wondering if you guys think I should re-take the DAT's or just apply and take the risk. Of course there is a risk with re-taking the DAT which is the possibility that I do worse on some of the sections. Also if I do decide to retake do I still apply early and just notify the schools that I am retaking.

But anyways, thanks in advance to all of the suggestions and help that you guys give me. SDN rocks.

Hmm this one is a toughie...

You could apply and see what happens; however, you're dat scores are average-ish. Same goes for GPA.

On the other hand, 20+ will better chances immensely. HOWEVER, if you retake your DAT and do worse, you have pretty much screwed yourself for this cycle.

As the above post says, your scores seem to be right on the average for both GPA and DAT. I would think if you apply to 8-9 schools, you'd at least get 2-3 interviews if not more. Just plan on rocking the interview and making a great impression, and I honestly think you'll get a few acceptances. If money is a BIG issue, you may want to hold off on applying to a lot of schools, but I would definitely apply this cycle. Being unsure isn't worth losing an entire year. I say go for it...

If you are solid in the other areas of your app and apply early, you should get interviews

I agree. Your scores aren't weak, they're just not stellar either. But still, they land you right into the middle of the applicant pool, which is fine.

Make sure your personal statement is good, I think you should get interviews as well.

As for the QR. In preparing for this section, I basically practiced pacing and speed as opposed to learning material because I always had trouble finishing during practice tests. That's my best advice for anybody who wants to work on QR.

I think you should retake it. I think if you study a bit more, you can do better! Good Luck!

First, I would like to say thank you for all of the great advice.

I think after contemplating all of it I am going to try to apply and see if I get in this cycle. I came to this conclusion because of the risk involved if I ended up doing worse on some sections. I was just wondering if you guys had any advice on the number of schools to apply to, and if you know of any I should definitely include to my list.

Thanks again
